The Hootie Owl Crochet Pattern

This is a bit out of my normal “style,” although, thinking about it, I’m not sure I actually have a “style”.  Hmmm.  Anyway, I’ve come up with something a bit different, and really hope you enjoy it.  I originally made it to be a coaster (which I love), but it can be used as a decal on a blanket or hat, a wall decoration… Let me know what kind of fun ideas you come up with!

  • If you’d like to purchase the PDF for this pattern, it is available HERE in my Etsy shop!  I sell the PDF as a way of making just a tiny bit of money while I am a stay at home mom.  The PDF is downloadable, printable, and a lot less wordy and picture-y than my blog post!

What You’ll Need:

Yarn – *See notes below*
Hook – *See notes below*
Tapestry Needle
Stitch Marker

*This can be made with any yarn, as long as you use a hook that works with the type of yarn you are using (check the label to see what is recommended).  For instance, I used a super fine (1) yarn by Hobbii yarn for the white (measures 4×6) with a 3.0mm hook, Mandala yarn  (light weight 3) by Lion Brand for the Pink (measures 5.25×8), with a 5.0mm H hook.  The Brown owl was made with Caron Simply Soft yarn and a 5.0mm H hook and also measure 5.25×8).  Thinner yarn and smaller hooks will make a smaller owl.

What You Need to Know:

chain (ch)
Slip Stitch (slst)
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Double Crochet (dc)
Treble/Triple Crochet (tr)

Pattern: Instructions in parenthesis (  ) will indicate stitches made in chain spaces. Change colors on the body and eyes at row 4 if you want a multi colored owl.

The Body:

Row 1: Chain 3, slst to join to ch 1, ch 2 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in center, slst to join to top of ch 2 (12)

Top of head & Ears:

On the right (if you’re looking at it) eye, count over three 2dc blocks and attach your yarn into the first dc in that block.
